Question Words

Questions often begin with a question word. (But not always.)
Here are the main English question words:
Who - Used to ask about people.
Example: "Who is coming to the party?"
What - Used to ask about things or situations.
Example: "What is your favorite food?"
Where - Used to ask about locations.
Example: "Where are you going?"
When - Used to ask about time.
Example: "When is the meeting?"
Why - Used to ask about reasons.
Example: "Why did you choose that option?"
How - Used to ask about methods or conditions.
Example: "How did you learn English?"

Which – To ask about choices or options.
Example: "Which car do you prefer?" (This or that?)
Whose – To ask about ownership or possession.
Example: "Whose bag is this?"
Whom – To ask about a person (as the object of an action).
Example: "Whom did you invite to the party?"
How much – To ask about uncountable quantities or price.
Example: "How much water do you need?" / "How much does it cost?"
How many – To ask about countable quantities.
Example: "How many books do you have?"
How long – To ask about duration or length of time.
Example: "How long will the meeting last?"
How often – To ask about frequency.
Example: "How often do you exercise?"
How far – To ask about distance.
Example: "How far is it from here to the station?"
What kind of – To ask about types or categories.
