What Are Parts of Speech?
Parts of speech are the main types of words we use to make sentences in English. Each type (category) has a special job. Knowing them helps you make correct and clear sentences.
There are eight main parts of speech:
Nouns

Adjectives
Adverbs
Prepositions
Conjunctions
Interjections
Let’s look at each one with 10 example words and simple sentences.
1. Nouns
Nouns are words for people, places, things, or ideas.
10 example nouns:
dog, city, book, car, teacher, house, water, child, friend, time
Examples:
My dog is friendly.
She lives in a big city.
I read a book every night.
2. Pronouns
Pronouns are words that we use instead of nouns or to show who something belongs to (possession). They help us avoid repeating names and make sentences shorter and clearer.

I, you, he, she, it, we, they, me, him, her, my ,your
Examples:
He is my brother.
They are playing outside.
It is raining.
Tom gives me the book.
Your hair is wet.
3. Verbs
Verbs are action words. They show what someone or something does.

run, eat, go, have, make, see, play, read, write, speak
Examples:
I run every morning.
She eats breakfast.
We play football.
4. Adjectives
Adjectives describe nouns. They tell us more about a person, place, or thing.

5. Adverbs
Adverbs describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. They tell us how, when, where, or how much.

7. Conjunctions
Conjunctions join words, phrases, or sentences together.

and, but, or, so, because, if, when, while, although, since

I like tea and coffee.

We can go now, or wait.
8. Interjections
Interjections are words we use to show strong feelings or emotions.

Wow, Oh, Ouch, Hey, Yes, No, Hurray, Oops, Well, Alas
Examples:
Wow! That’s amazing!
Oh! I forgot my keys.
Ouch! That hurts.
